Anxiety and Depression Association of America

Anxiety and Depression Association of America For 2014 we proudly donated to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America. Their mission is to promote mental health through education, practice, and research.

Anxiety disorders are the most common psychiatric illnesses affecting children and adults. An estimated 40 million American adults suffer from anxiety disorders. Only about one-third of those suffering from an anxiety disorder receive treatment, even though the disorders are highly treatable.

The term "anxiety disorder" includes generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), panic disorder and panic attacks, agoraphobia, social anxiety disorder, selective mutism, separation anxiety, and specific phobias. Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are closely related to anxiety disorders, which some may experience at the same time, along with depression.

The goals of ADAA include:
  • Provide free educational information about anxiety and stress-related disorders.
  • Help people who are struggling find the treatment they need.
  • Advocate for anxiety research and better care for those who suffer from anxiety-related disorders.

The following is the letter Zombie Pumpkins received after submitting our donation:

Dear Ryan,

Your gift to ADAA helps end the suffering of millions of children and adults with anxiety disorders, depression, OCD, PTSD and related illnesses — and we thank you for it.

You make a difference in the lives of more than 40 million adults and children who struggle with these often-debilitating disorders. Thanks to you, ADAA can continue to help all those who feel alone and afraid.

Here are some ways we can accomplish our goals:

We refer thousands of people to mental health providers; provide free educational resources directly to parents, college students, and anyone making a request; produce free monthly public education webinars attended by hundreds of people around the globe; reach more than 2.3 million website visitors who searched for hope and help from suffering from anxiety and depressive disorders; maintain Find a Therapist, the free online database of treatment providers specializing in treating anxiety, depression, and related disorders.
