I think I've done about 14 patterns so far this year and at least another 10 last year.

I illuminate my creations just a touch differently than most folks, but here's a couple I've done recently.

I recently got the professional pumpkin carving kit from Ryan and have to say it's fantastic! So much easier than the carving kit tools or even the small knives I've tried.

I gotta say, I love these patterns! :D

Impressive! I'm guessing the flames photographed that way due to a long exposure time, but they look explosive. Like a flame thrower jetting out of the top of the pumpkin with great force.

Thanks for the compliments and keep up the good work, taking the designs to new heights... literally.

Thanks!

The flames really are about 3 feet high and the flame will burn for about 45 minutes to 1 hour. It'll look like this for about 15-20 mins.

The camera is of course on a tripod with remote shutter. The exposure is anywhere from 1/4 second (on Kang) to about 2 seconds (Puking Pumpkin).

You definitely get the blast furnace effect at a 2 second exposure.

This is what the flame looks like at 1/100s

Puking Pumpkin does look like he's had enough and blown his top. :)

That's outstanding.

You should do a dragon head of something pointed up and then have that flames come out of where his mouth would be.

The dragon is a great idea, I will have to get that set up for next time around.

Here is another one of my creations that I lit for Halloween itself.

And here are all my carvings for the year:

It's actually a simple recipe.

Take:
1 part toilet paper roll.
1 part gasoline

Mix together and let sit overnight.

Use a long lighter since it goes off with a bit of a "pop" in the beginning.

Instead of gasoline you can use kerosene or lamp oil. The lamp lights much slower and doesn't anywhere near the fumes, but it's more expensive.

I did try a paper towel role in a larger pumpkin I had. While visually pretty impressive, it only lasted about 15 minutes.
