 Theme park scraps Halloween display of skeletons of dead celebrities

In response to negative feedback from the public, the Kings Island amusement park near Cincinnati has dismantled its planned Halloween Haunt display featuring skeletons of dead celebrities, including Michael Jackson, former Titan QB Steve McNair, Heath Ledger and Sonny Bono, The Cincinnati Inquirer reports.

“We weren’t intending for it to be distasteful and we do apologize if we offended anyone,” said Don Helbig, Kings Island spokesman, who helped remove some of the skeletons on Thursday.

The Inquirer says reaction to the McNair display was especially negative, particularly in Nashville, where McNair played most of his career and was killed on July 4.

The display included a skeleton wearing a No. 8 jersey and a second skeleton of McNair's dead mistress, who is accused of killing him before committing suicide.

The Bono scene showed a skeleton tied to a tree and wearing ski equipment. The singer, actor and U.S. Congressman died in 1998 after slamming into a tree while skiing.

The display, which was to open today, was also going to include Charlie’s Angels actress Farrah Fawcett, Wendy’s founder Dave Thomas and TV product pitchman Billy Mays, the paper says.
