We have just experienced our second power cut in two weeks. We lit our house with a pack of 50 tea lights and numerous candles (very Dickensian) but most impressive were the pumpkin flicker and rainbow lights that we used in our living room.

It felt a bit like living in a lava lamp at one point but when I went to retrieve something from my car, from outside it looked like we had the aurora borealis happening.

Nos, get some petzl lights (every kid should have one)
A tikka plus / zipka plus ..have a look on ebay.
The risk of longer power cuts over coming winters is inevitable!
I don't think a 50 pack of ikea candles would last long under duress!

..also (this might be good for the kid in you)

These seriously rock in a power out or for camping, roughing it, days out etc!

in fact theres a guy who powers his barbeque with one (no more charcoal) ..hole in the bottom for a gasifier stove!
