Announcement trailer:

Psychonauts and Brutal Legend developer Double Fine has announced Costume Quest 2, the follow-up to its 2010 RPG about candy, friendship and family.

Coming to "consoles and PC" this Halloween courtesy of publisher Midnight City, Costume Quest represents the studio's first numbered sequel. Previously Double Fine was slated to make a sequel to Brutal Legend, but that fell through following the first game's lackluster sales, while talk of Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson funding a Psychonauts sequel never amounted to anything. The studio did make a sequel of sorts to Happy Action Theater with Kinect Party, but those games had no story to speak of, making it really more of an expansion that what we usually think of when we hear the word "sequel".

The original Costume Quest was more of a treat than a trick, with EG-contributor Chris Schilling calling it "another delightful look into the minds of children; a window into their vivid imaginations, and the wonderful places their ideas and dreams can take them" in his Costume Quest review. The game was later succeeded by its Christmas-themed DLC expansion Grubbins on Ice.

Here is a great preview of the game;

It sounds like the game is shaping up to be fantastic with improvements to mission structure, deeper battle mechanics with battle modifier stamps and cards which will take a fair bit of hunting down. I can't wait to play it, IMO no other game has ever managed to capture the atmosphere of Halloween night more than Costume Quest. Brilliant stuff :D

Costume Quest: Invasion of the Candy Snatchers.

Image
Hot on the heels of the freshly announced video game Costume Quest 2, Oni Press presents an adorable Halloween-themed graphic novel from Double Fine Productions (Broken Age, Psychonauts) and comics superstar Zac Gorman (Magical Game Time)!
Klem and his pals aren't the most popular Grubbins in candy-starved Repugia, but Klem's hoping that will change once he brings a hoard of candy back from the human world. After all, it's Halloween, so there's candy everywhere! Unfortunately, there're also bullies everywhere, ready to steal all of Klem's sweet, sweet loot. Will he and his friends make it out alive, or are they doomed to an eternity of sugar-free torment?
Sorry for the double (fine) post but I thought it would be worth mentioning that a hardcover comic book based on the Costume Quest games titled Costume Quest: Invasion of the Candy Snatchers and illustrated by Zac Gorman (http://magicalgametime.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) is set for release this October. It came about after Zac drew a mini-comic of Costume Quest which caught the attention of the Double Fine team, it can be viewed here:

Anyhoo if you pre-order the comic book (in the US) you will receive a free Costume Quest 2 tote bag and a free copy of Costume Quest 1 on Steam!

I thought I would resurrect this post - I play both of these games every year! I am currently playing Costume Quest 2, and I highly recommend it to my fellow pumpkin people. :thumbsup:
