Anthems or ambiance, these are the tones that rattle your bones.

Each Halloween season I make a new mix/playlist for myself and friends. To force myself to think outside the box (Thriller, Monster Mash) I like to pick songs that relate to the patterns I've designed for that year. This makes each year's mix feel timely and unique.

So I ask for your help, to suggest some Halloween appropriate songs that somehow relate to the 2010 patterns... either directly (like the theme song for that character's show/movie) or more abstractly (maybe the songs lyrics mention a word that relates to the pattern).

I'll update this list as Halloween gets closer. Here are my ideas so far. Can you help think of more? Don't be afraid to suggest the odd or unheard of.

Bloody Mary - Whitesnake had a song called Bloody Mary where the chorus is Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary as well as being bloody awful. If you are serving cheese at a party, make sure its Whitesnake.

Thomas TTE - Night Train by Guns n Roses. A pumpkin train lit up at night. Say no more.

Neytiri - Let's Get Ugly by Pop Will Eat Itself. Made for this pattern. Lyrics as follows:

"Should be a crime to be that ugly
She's a real ugly lady - U!
The ugliest in the world - G!
You know I don't mean maybe - L!
So won't somebody tell me - Y!
It should be a crime to be that ugly

Ugly, oh yeah, she's my ugly girl
Ugly, oh yeah, tailor-made for another world
Ugly, oh yeah, seems to wear it well
Ugly, oh yeah, we suit each other well"

For the overall "Invaders" theme you can't beat The Prodigy's "Invaders Must Die". Stunning. Don't listen to whilst driving though as you well end up with a speeding ticket.

How about Hero Managment by Biffy Clyro for Iron Man?

The lyrics seem apt:

"Iron man, I return to you, to be the way you wanted
But I have no strength or the decency in me to be a hero
But we still fall down, yeah you'll still fall down

Iron man, I refuse to be the way that you would want me
Still I've got no strength but the sense in me to see I'm not a hero
But we still fall down, still fall down
And we'll still fall down, and we still fall"

Zombie Hello Kitty - Was going to suggest Kitty by The Presidents of the USA. The lyrics are fab and would have fitted perfectly had they been about a female cat rather than a male one.

Sonic - The only thing I can think of is "Zoom" by Fat Larry's Band! Or, tenuous link, "Pattern Recognition" by Sonic Youth

There's always "Psycho Killer" by the Talking Heads that would work for lots of the patterns. :)

Oh! And I always think of "White Rabbit" for the Alice In Wonderland patterns....

Good thinking everyone. Stuff like"Hero Management" and "Night Train" and "Bloody Mary" all fit the "saying the name of the pattern" sort of thing. But the songs themselves aren't as specifically "Halloweeny."

I'm liking "Boris the Spider" by The Who and "Beelz" by Stephen Lynch. I have both of those tracks already. :)

"Pussy Liquor" by Rob Zombie may also work for Zombie Hello Kitty. "Psychotic Girl" by the Black Keys would be kinda cool for Bloody Mary.

Good calls, Hottie. That Rob Zombie song though... while related, its also miles away from Hello Kitty cuteness.

Yeah, it's not exactly 'family friendly' either. There's always "Pussycat Meow" by Deee-Lite.

Oh, and "Ghost Town" by the Specials would be great for Shaun Of The Dead.

For Hello Kitty: Misfits - Night of the Living Dead

(Upbeat horror!)

Stumble in somnambulance so
Pre-dawn corpses come to life
Armies of the dead surviving
Armies of the hungry ones

Only-ones, lonely-ones
Ripped up like shredded-wheat
Only-ones, lonely-ones
Be a sort of human picnic

This ain't no love-in
This ain't no happening
This ain't no feeling in my arm

You think you're a zombie, you think it's a scene
From some monster magazine
Well, open your eyes [now/too late]
This ain't no fantasy, boy

This ain't no love-in
This ain't no happening
This ain't no feeling in my arm

Baron Mojo deserves Godsmack's Voodoo track!

Bloody Mary would go well with Type O Negative's 'Black No. 1'... I won't post the lyrics for that (they're long).
