I've used several of my ceramic pottery tools for carving pumpkins over the years that have been really helpful. Some of the clean tools are excellent for layering or etched pumpkins when you have large aeras to etch. Also the lance or clean tool woith a point makes an excellent poker for applying you pattern to the pumpkin. Here's a link to site with some pictures of tools I am talking about. The nioce thing about the steel lance or clean up tool with the stell point is that it nevers dulls.

Pumpkin Masters also makes an excellent etching set with a v-cutter and raker that work well for most etchings. I primary use these two tools on most of my pumpkin carvings.

When I was in high school I did clay tile etchings, and some of those tools would be ideal for carving pumpkins as well.
