I Know lythiam Joe As Been Experimenting With Varnish
I Have Also Been Experimenting With A Spray Called Plasti-Koat

Image

I Started By Cutting A Melon In Half And Removed The Seeds
I Dried Both Halves To Give Both The Best Chance As We Know Wet And Damp Encourages The Mold To Grow Quicker

I Coated One Half With Two layers Of Plasti-Koat

Both Was Stored In A Garage So The Temperature Was The Same For Both Test Pieces

After 5 Days

Melon With Plastic Protection

Melon Without

After 10 Days

The Beauty About This Is That The Plastic Is Easy Removed By Washing With Water

That looks pretty conclusive. I'll have to check out my local craft store. I'd like to see how well it works on an actual carving though with thin lines etc. Does it make the skin shiny?

Very interesting.

Where did you buy the plasti-kote from?

I got the varnish (same brand) from B&Q, and that was all they had in terms of spray varnishes.

I Got It From B&Q But It was Not With The Varnishes
It Was In The Paint Section

They Had All Sorts Of Weired And Wonderful Sprays
The Luminous Ones Looked Great

Went to B&Q today found the pasti-kotes in the paint section, realised I'd forgotten to bring with me the bit of paper with the name of the type you used written down on it. left empty handed. going back tomorrow.

Wonder what sort of effect you would get if you sprayed the inside of the 'kin with luminous paint and then put it in a blacklit room or even put a small blacklight inside it.
