Here's how I cleanly gut my pumpkin, smooth the insides, and thin the walls of the carving area to about 1-inch thick for easier carving.



The tools used are...
  • Pumpkin Masters Jack-o-Ripper: A massive serrated scoop for severing the stringy stuff and scooping the seeds
  • The Pumpkin Gutter: A drill attachment for quickly thinning and smoothing the inside walls
  • Kemper Ceramic/Clay Loop (pear shape): A hand tool for smoothing the inside walls, especially behind where your carved design will be
