Would it help if the inside of the funkin or any foam one for that matter was say, spray painted black? Not real sure how feasible spray paint would be, but the idea of darkening the inside to give it a better glow... Has that been discussed, tried, etc?

that actually kills the glow. black absorbs light thats why we have black holes. try a gray paint if you want to paint the inside of a foamie

Indeed, painting the inside of your pumpkin a dark color will just absorb the light and hurt the effect of your design. The inside color of the pumpkin should be light and brighter than the outside, otherwise you end up with a negative image.

Foam pumpkins (and real ones too) have a light orange or almost yellow interior. This usually looks great, since candle or electric light can bounce off the light color and make your design shine.

If you want to experiment with different colors inside your pumpkin, just keep them light. Maybe a neon green paint for a witch, or a hot pink interior for a girly design like Pretty Poison.
