I have never ever cut the top of the foamies. I KNOW I'd lose them or I'd always be twisting it to get the lines to line up right, and I have many designs that would be hampered or distracted by a cut line up top. For my own real kins I do greatly prefer to cut out the top and sprinkle cinnamon on the lid. However, every pumpkin walk I've had displays in have asked for pumpkins to be cut from the bottom to set the pumpkin over the light. It works better for the pre-lit display stands, it helps to not have a lid when you are hydrating and there is never a risk of the lid falling in on the light.

i cut the top off on the smaller kins and insert a flicker light. the nursing home my mother in law is at does'nt like any type of extra electrical devices. a plus is, she takes it with her to show everyone.
