I really like that candy apple recipe, the fact that he puts cinnamon normally I simmer a Vanilla Bean and 1 star anise pod in my mix then remove before dipping, it's quite lovely but cinnamon would also be good.

Go ahead though if you don;t like licorice leave the niase out I love how it is with apple or grapefruit but not all are fans of it so. The vanilla bean works splendid. If you want to go with a "prett canday apple" do not add any food coloring, scrape the vanilla bean seeds into the sugar mis....you may need 2 or 3 for this and use a really light (such as an ambrosia) apple, it makes lil dark fleckes floating in clear on the apple and twisting the apple will make a neat design during the dip.
