I liked planet terror slightly better than death proof only because death proof lagged for a while in the middle, but the end was great. I was disappointed with pirates, it seemed like they could have cut out like an hour of the movie.

Shark and Surfer Idea

I second the motion for some sort of shark and surfer stencil would look great. A good one would be the surfer on the melon, with the the image of the shark fin cut in the back projecting a shark fin shadow.

Your best bet is to search the net for the ribbon logo, and then scan it, and then print it off and your have your pattern. Your likley going to need to use some etching tools to get the effect your looking for.

Glue Method

I think the glue method is really only for real pumpkins. The funkins skin chips easily and I could see the glue picking it up while washing it off.
