Zombie Pumpkins!

2004 News Archive!

12/06/04 - It's Creepy Contest time! The photos have been viewed, the votes have been tallied and winners have been announced. Slither over to the winners page to see which creepy creations were chosen as the tops in Accuracy, Photography, Creativity, and Quantity. Bask in the glory you freaks... you earned it.

Bonus trivia: Even though Halloween is most popular in the U.S., the "Best in Show" winners from the last three seasons have all come from outside the states (Russia, Germany, and Belgium). Lets see some more effort my fellow Americans! But I do have to say, I'm glad to see that Halloween is gaining such popularity worldwide. Next year is going to be killer!

12/05/04 - What was I thinking when I promised to add each and every eligible photo to the Gruesome Galleries? After personally sorting, cropping, resizing, adjusting and captioning 568 photos... I realize I may need to rethink the guidelines. But for now, the entire 2004 Pumpkin Carving Gallery is up for your browsing pleasure.

If 568 photos is too many to swallow, you can wait for the eventual launch of some smaller galleries. Current ideas floating around include a "Best Of" group to highlight a prime example of each stencil design, a "Costumes and Pumpkins" set featuring carvers dressed to match their jack-o-lantern likeness, and "Most Creative" collection to give credit to those that go above and beyond with lighting, props, and stencil modification.

And speaking of galleries, while we wait for the eventual rise of the Zombie Pumpkins next fall, take a peek at the updated Beyond the Pumpkins gallery, to see some of the inspired projects you can create with your ZP stencils.

10/31/04 - It's over! As the final moments of Halloween tick away, I'm sitting here by the pumpkin glow, looking back on another successful season for Zombie Pumpkins! I hope everyone had a happy Halloween!

The next task at hand - sorting through all photos submitted to the Gruesome Galleries. If you carved a Zombie Pumpkins! stencil this year, be sure to send in your photos before November 30th to be eligible for the Creepy Contests.

10/30/04 - With only one day before the big event, today's pumpkin stencil is likely the last for this year. Step into the lab of the mad carver. The slicing scientist. The pumpkin professor. Dr. Pumpkinstein is conducting gory experiments on the Unique Creations page.

10/29/04 - There comes a time to put away childhood things. But some things just won't stay put! From the upcoming film Seed of Chucky, get a load of Chucky, on the Movie Monsters page.

10/29/04 - Halloween weekend has arrived. And if you haven't carved your pumpkin yet, it's about time you got started! As an added incentive, the Creepy Contests are now in effect! Following the contest guidelines, take a photo of your masterpiece(s) and send them in for the Gruesome Gallery. All eligible entries will have a chance to win t-shirts and free membership to next year's Zombie Pumpkins! site!

10/27/04 - In the direction of the Unique Creations page, lives the grinning Cheshire Cat. Visit him if you like. You say you don't want to go among mad people? Oh, you can't help that. We're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad. You must be or you wouldn't have come here.

10/26/04 - A murderer? A cannibal? A psychopath? They don't have a name for what he is. Hannibal Lecter is currently locked up on the Movie Monsters page. He'll eat your liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti.

10/26/04 - The Zombie Pumpkins! site is full of famous faces. But I also create custom pumpkins for the average person (and dog). You can now view a selection of these individualistic gourds on the Personal Pumpkins page.

10/24/04 - It just wouldn't be Halloween without a new Nightmare Before Christmas stencil on the Zombie Pumpkins! site! This time, a lesser known resident of Halloween Town has found his way to the Burton's Nightmares page... the Harlequin Demon.

10/21/04 - In case you were unaware of the date, allow me to point out that Halloween is a mere 10 days away! Time to pick your pumpkins and finalize your costume plans. And if you were thinking of getting a Zombie Pumpkins! t-shirt, the time to order is NOW if you plan to wear yours this Halloween.

10/21/04 - After some prodding from persistent parents, I've cooked up a couple more Kreatures for Kids. Yami Yugi of the Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card and television series, and a personal favorite of my youth... those heroes in a half-shell, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

10/20/04 - Freddy Krueger is ready to invade your dreams from the Movie Monsters page. Get out your blades and take a stab at this pumpkin stencil. It'll fit like a glove.

10/19/04 - One of the most requested pumpkin patterns has finally come home to the Movie Monsters page. On Halloween, it's trick or treat. The trick is to stay alive, with Michael Myers on the loose.

10/18/04 - If you live anywhere near Southern CT, be sure to pick up the Monday edition of the New Haven Register. I'm featured in today's Life/Styles section, explaining my sick fascination with zombies, pumpkins... and Zombie Pumpkins!

And if you found your way here after reading the aforementioned newspaper article... welcome! Be sure to wander around the Petrifying Patterns page, where you can print your own pumpkin patterns from several categories - ranging from the cute and cuddly, to the gross and gory!

10/18/04 - This site already contains its share of famous shock rockers. But Lest We Forget the self-proclaimed Antichrist Superstar himself, Marilyn Manson. Download this gothic anti-hero from the Rock Gods page.

10/17/04 - When there's no more room in hell, the dead with walk the earth. It's the Dawn of the Dead, as mindless zombies shuffle across the Movie Monsters page! And those who know classic horror should recognize these custom Tom Savini stencils. Tom did makeup, stunts, and acting for the original Dawn of the Dead and also had a cameo in the recent remake.

10/17/04 - The Gruesome Galleries are back! Not only can you view all the pumpkin carving submissions for the 2002 and 2003 seasons, but some fanatics (okay, mostly me) have already added photos for 2004.

Oh, but there's more to ogle than jack-o-lanterns. The Beyond the Pumpkins gallery demonstrates all the ghoulish things you can do with stencils that don't require gutting a giant orange fruit. Like getting the design tattooed!

And the Zombie Pumpkins! Shirts gallery shows a few creeps sporting their zombie tees. Start sending in your photos folks. Let's fill up these galleries!

10/16/04 - Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? SpongeBob SquarePants! Absorbent and porous and yellow is he. Download your aquatic invertebrate pal from the Kreatures for Kids page.

10/12/04 - Ogres are like pumpkins. If you leave them out in the sun, they'll get all mushy and attract flies. Grab your torch and pitchfork, because Shrek has left the swamp and turned up on the Kreatures for Kids page.

10/11/04 - Some may say I have an odd affection for goats, having now created two stencils on the theme. But you can't deny... those sharp horns and pointy beard are pretty menacing. Especially those of the Road Goat, currently grazing the Unique Creations page.

10/05/04 - I had an evil plot for the Kreatures for Kids page, and I would have gotten away with it too... if it wasn't for those meddling kids, and that dog, Scooby-Doo. Zoinks!

A bag-sized version of the Frank bunny stencil is included on page 77.

09/28/04 - Classic horror has certainly influenced this site. But never will it be said that I ignore the modern classics currently in theaters. Shaun of the Dead clutches his cricket bat and aims for the head on the Heroic Headliners page.

09/27/04 - Like any good B-movie horror story, "Attack of the Zombie Pumpkins!" needed a sequel, and here it is... "Revenge of the Zombie Pumpkins!" Browse around and feast your eyes on the spooky sights within.

But of course, it's the pumpkin patterns that you're probably craving. There are a ton of new stencils about to be unleashed on the site soon, so check back often. The Zombie Pumpkins are BACK!

07/11/04 - The desire to carve is too powerful. My knife cannot wait for October. A recent Hawaiian luau afforded me the opportunity to carve a Freaky Tiki into a watermelon. You too can please the island gods by carving up a summertime melon with this tropical visage, now available on the Unique Creations page.

05/12/04 - Ghost Droppings is an excellent guide to Halloween and all things creepy, as evidenced by their recent inclusion of this site. Thanks to those ghouls over there for helping keep the Zombie Pumpkins! buzz going during this dormant spring season.

04/03/04 - Spring has sprung, and you know what that means. Halloween is creeping up fast! It's a mere 211 days away. Time to start planning October's spookfest!

You may think I'm crazy (and you'd be right), but the buzz on message boards indicates I'm not the only one thinking ahead. I've also been getting quite a few stencil requests lately. So feel free to do the same. The sooner you send in your ideas, the more time I'll have to make them.

Spring time also means that warm weather is starting to be a regular thing. Time to start wearing those t-shirts again. In honor of this fine weather, Zombie Pumpkins! t-shirts are once again (and will remain to be) $10. You won't find them elsewhere for less. You won't find them anywhere else, as a matter of fact.
