Heres #1, done on a Michaels Large white Foamie!

Didn't come out the way I really would have liked it, but its my first foamie, so I didn't expect perfect results.

Soo good to be back in the game!!! :D

Takes a couple foamies to really get the hang of it, but yours looks great to me I don't see any mistakes. What did you use to carve it? Versa tool?

Really nice! Really really nice for your first foam! I remember my first, carved with the PM tools years ago. I will be doing my first with a Versa Tool this year.

Great touch with the green light, too.

Actually done with the ZP Pro Carving tool. Detail knife for most of it. Even the bigger sections were done with it. it was just too hard and unreliable with the regular blade.

But I must say, this foamie didnt have alot of give. I can notice the mistakes, I want to see if Ryan can notice them. :P

The versa tool cuts through it like butter. Pick one up and micheals with a %40 coupon well worth it. Just be careful not to burn the foam theres a knack to it takes a few mistakes before you really get the hang out it. Your carve looks great though good to see you've joined the foamie club. :D We meet Wednesday and Fridays at Guses house.

The fine detail saw of the Pro Tool is good on foam. If the edge ends up looking too rough for your tastes, you can go back and clean them up by trimmed a little more with an x-acto blade. Or use a versa tool heat knife and get clean lines from the start.

Looks good though! You have begun! I can't see any mistakes on it. No parts missing or broken off or uncarved, at least.

Sonic you are like I am with real pumpkin carves, in that you are used to the cut & movement of one not the other, & whilst they are similar shapes, the resistance is so different, thus your own critical eye based on experience to date.

As ryan says, get a cheap set of xacto or similar & merely tidy up lightly any rough edges you are less than enamoured with.
take a picture at the same angle & compare to get to grips with the difference..

you'll be fine, you're doing fine! ..keep with that small blade

Heres my first real 'kin of the season.

Bat Cave is a particulary favorite pattern, due to its being initially released on my birthday in the year when I joined the site's forums.

Also it was the first year I paid for my own membership!

It was carved due to a huge molding soft spot. (it was for the church carving party I'm hosting, but thought "I am NOT wasting a 'kin").

So heres the carve, it was very tough to carve since I couldn't gut with the gutter. When I tried I blew a hole in the spot where the mold had softened the wall.

Needless to say I will be carving this again. Too many mistakes for my liking. :(

I really have to get one of those pro tool sets. I always use the versa tool and that isn't the easiest to use for fine cuts. Put this looks really great for your first foam pumpkin.
