I usually carve a few watermelons each summer. At the very least, July 4th is a carving day in my family. Here's a couple photos from this past weekend. My mom did the Seahorse. I carved the Hula Dancer.

The hula girl definitely fits the summer vibe (along with the tiki heads already in existence) ..love the mini head on the pattern
Ryan, Not a criticism, to me the sea-horse is too simple compared to your usual stencils, (obviously to cover the wide range of carver abilities) I saw it & my first impression was to wish for more cut lines along the shape of the sea-horse to throw some more detailing in, I guess you considered it before the final "cut" & opted for a more simplistic delivery?

GUS, true the seahorse is rather simple. They have bony ridges along their whole body, which I tried to incorporate into the pattern. But with the stark contrast of cut vs. non-cut, it just looked like stripes. And the cuts were rather repetitive.
So I tried just using the basic outline of the seahorse and ended up preferring the simplistic look. The seahorse has such a recognizable shape, even without a lot of detail. And as you said, I do think it's nice to have some easier patterns in the collection to fit carvers of various skill levels.
The basic style of the seahorse might be well paired with the fish (Summer Redstein) pattern I already have, for an underwater theme. Also, I notice the hula dancer may have a kindred summer spirit in the "Splashing Siren" mermaid (similar face, flowing hair, full body) so that might make for another nice set.
