I was watching Sleepy Hollow the other day and I got an idea for an inexpensive( yet very creepy) scarecrow for my front yard.

Heres my design:

I was thinking of building a 'T' frame out of PVC pipe and using some old sheets and a foam pumpkin to build it.

any comments/ Ideas?

I actually had a very similar idea myself. I was going to erect a more complex skeleton though out of PVC pipe in hopes to make it look as close to a real body as possible. But I was going to use a foam pumpkin as the head for sure.

I think it is an awesome idea. Should be pretty inexpensive for what you have planned. Would love to see pics as you step through the process if you do end up implementing this.

Yeah I'm definetly gonna try to make one (and take loads of pix as I do it) the only thing thats worrying me is what to use for the cloth part, I was thinking I might try a thrift store or two, but other than that I dunno.

I was also thinking of getting some dried corn stalks and setting up a mini cornfield around the SC to add the the mood, after all, what use is a scarecrow without some corn to protect?

would the local farmers market have some corn stalks?

Here is some inspiration for you; this guy’s sight is crazy. He makes awesome scarecrows and zombies; he is the inspiration for my yard this year.

I was inspired by the same movie last year. PVC is great to work with, I'll be posting pics of some creatures I've made for this year soon, but here are my scarecrows from last year. If you can find some good branches to stick through the pipe it adds a good effect.

the Oogie Boogie is from the Disney online store. Not only is it big and bright, but the bugs love flying around inside it giving it an effect that people who know the film will appreciate.

Yeah I have always loved that Pumpkinrot guy and his site. I would kill to have his display, but then my wife just wouldn't have that.
