a cheap old low calibre mp3 player & some NXT licesnsed flat panel speakers (or the inflatable ones) I find are a must as the batteries on both easily last a night of constant play and can easily be concealed / wrapped & tied away to preserve them from theft or water ingression.
I typically use 3 sets for the areas of approach to the house or for looped pre-recorded clips inside larger still display features.
my favourites are the TDK loudpanel cd case (large) for sheer volume)
followed by toys -r- us generic flat panel cd case for general areas, BOTH more than suffice. (around £5 -£7 GBP)
If you need MORE bass (as they're bass light by design) then the inflatable variant help considerably for you thunderclaps etc.
& yes they're fine when stowed into a pumpkin..
(I should add that the mp3 player is zipped inside the cd-case part of the flatpanel)
try it, cheap multiple sound areas that survive the weather without being visible!
