Ajax, I absolutely love that illustration you posted. Although, if I make a Tarman pattern, it will probably be more based on the movie appearance and more in my illustration style. When it comes to interpreting movie characters, I like to use my own art training to create my take on them. Rather than just tracing another artist's vision.
A little background on that illustration, if anyone is interested. It was created for a shirt that was sold by Fright Rags. The highly-stylized illustration, referencing the EC Comics-style, was created by William Stout. Stout is the fantasy artist and illustrator who helmed the production design for the Return of the Living Dead film. By the time he came up with Tarman, he had already worked on other features such as Raiders of the Lost Ark, Conan the Barbarian, and First Blood.
