Preference of Light

So... I was wandering around the Spirit store over here this year.. I saw an abundance of LED make-shift candle lights.. cheap and easy..

BUT.. I have always been a die-hard candle-light person for my pumpkins..

Which do you prefer to use? LED or real-candles?
Do the LED work as well as Candle-Light?

I have never used an LED light in my Pumpkins and was wondering which works better?

Nothing beats a real candle I find, but I've been using led lights more and more. Aspecially at my party. If I just light it up, while watching tv or something I tend to use candles.

3 reasons I use them at my party:
  • My party lasts for about 7 or 8 hours. A normal candle burns for about 4 hours, but because of the high temperatures inside the pumpkins a lot shorter, and I'm busy enough as it is, I don't want to be replacing candles all night.

It's safer, someone can accidentally bump into one and tip it over. And I'm not saying my guest catch on fire :P but even just candle wax on clothing isn't much fun...

The rainbow lights Ryan sells, can give an extra dimension to certain patterns.
But I still like candles the best, their give a warmer light, smell nice, even if it's just burning pumpkin, and they are more lively.

Ok, that's my two cents :)

candle v LED

I have gone over to the LED side I am afraid pretty much for the reasons Dadja has given

1. Pumpkins last longer
2. don't have to keep relighting candles ( here it is usually raining and windy at Halloween :? )
3. Like to have a selection of colours in my display.
4. Safer especially if displaying indoors.

Mind you..... not alll LED lights are the same :D The PM and soem of the others are rubbish. The ones Ryan stocks are best.

I'll always be a candle die-hard. I love the eerie flicker of the candle in the wind. Long as the wind doesnt blow them out. And I only need my candles to last an hour or two. Which tea-lights do just fine.

My two cents has now been posted :)

Well thank you for your 3 cents Super! I myself have always loved the eerie glow as well.. It's a toss up for me right now.. I am deffinitely buying some lights from Ryans shop but at the same time I MIGHT do a couple with just candles.. especially the two that will be in the house :D

Candles for real kins, string of christmas uh i mean halloween lights for foamies. We usually have 20 or so real kins, so the teal ights are more cost effective.

I'm a candle fan. I do a lot of shading and the LEDs just don't have the kind of light to really shine through. Though I do tend to use howler lights for long term displays that I'm not paying attention to.

I like to use a string of C9 lights for my pumpkins, this means that I don't need to spend time tending the candles to keep them lit, however I prefer the eerie flickering glow of a candle in a pumpkin, especially in a traditional pumpkin carving. I also love the smell of the pumpkin when the candle is burning the lid, it brings back memories from my youth, to me this is the smell of Halloween :D

Very well said! I also love the smell of a burning pumpkin :D It's a very memorable smell..

This year I will be trying to carve more pumpkins than I usually do (3) so I might just use LED lights in the outside ones and real Candles on the pumpkins inside the window/house

I've always been a die hard candle person myself but I decided to switch over to christms lights due to safety concerns. I had a few pumpkins that just wouldn't stay upright and if the wind would have picked up it could have set them rolling. I had four real candles going for the shaded pumpins I did because they required extra light but this year I'm going to go with clear C9 bulbs.

The first carving I did this year I used a candle, but when I do more, I'll be using LED lights simply because there will be more pumpkins and it'll be nearer my party - safety first! ;)

Not really, I'm just lazy and would rather mingle than run around replacing candles ;)

I too am a (mostly) traditionalist that enjoys the brightness, flicker and smell of a real candle. I use that lighting method often.

But there are good reasons to use battery or electric lights. Like others have said... they won't burn out, they aren't a fire hazard, and they let you do cool color effects to fit your design.

I usually have at least a couple LED pumpkin lights as part of my display on Halloween. Just for the variety of it. I always hear a few comments like "Hey, look! That one over there is changing colors!"
