Here Come The Mummies

I went to see this band last weekend, and had a lot of fun. Here Come The Mummies are "planet earth's preeminent undead funk ambassadors." Upbeat funk and R&B, complete with horn section. Clever lyrics sprinkled with double entendre. And did I mention they're all dressed in mummy costumes? Wait... no, they ARE actual mummies.

Here's a video I recorded and edited. Just a sampling of the terrifying funk from beyond the grave that oozes from these boys in bandages.

If you're interested, you can find plenty of other HCTM videos by searching YouTube. Or check out their official site for more info.

Glad you liked my video, MooBoo. I risked getting kicked out to record it. The security guy came over and told me to stop filming. Oops!

I think the band is fine with people taking videos. Some people in the front row were doing so. And I'm glad to give them a plug too. I bought their live DVD directly from the band, during a meet and greet after the show. And the quality of the DVD is great, so for any Mummy fans, I encourage you to pick up a copy.

It was the venue of this show that didn't want me taking video. I'm pretty sure this was because this event was at a casino. And right near the gambling floor. Even taking still photos of the gambling tables is a no-no, per their regulations. So me waving around a video camera was probably making them nervous. Thankfully for them, I just wanted a memento of my mummy experience, and wasn't trying to learn how to cheat at blackjack.

I didn't even realize they had a new album coming out, but sure enough... Bed, Bath & Behind. Release Date: October 18, 2011. But if you preorder now, you get immediate access to a high quality mp3 download of the new album, so you can groove to the funk while you wait for your physical copy to arrive in the mail.

Just in time for Thanksgiving, we are given a new song to feast on, by Here Come the Mummies. There aren't nearly enough Thanksgiving songs, if you ask me. I'm glad to add "Jive Turkey" to my selection of November tunes.

Continuing to document my devotion to this bandaged band, I wanted to mention that I saw them perform live again over the weekend. Another great show, with their typical energy and humor. Here's a shot from the performance:

But this show stands out as the first time I got to meet some of the mummies. I got an exploding fist bump from "The Pole" and got picture taken with "Java." He rubbed some of his lady skills (and makeup) off on me. Then proceeded to grope the nearest female. What a beast.

I first heard of HCTM back when Ryan made this thread, which looks like it was April 2011. I'm a trumpet player, so a monster-themed band with a horn section is right up my alley. It doesn't hurt that they're equal parts lewd and hilarious, either.

I've added a few Mummies songs to my regular Halloween playlist (jazz and funk songs make for great party music). I went with Bump, Strange, Believe (In Things You Cannot See), Creepin', and of course, Attack of the Weiner Man. Those songs seemed to fit best in a Halloween mix, to me anyway. Some of my other favorites are Single Entendre, Pants, and Horizontal Mambo.

I was hoping to see them earlier this Summer, but I missed my chance. I just checked out their tour schedule, and it looks like they're going to be in my neck of the woods (Minnesota) on October 26th and 27th, the weekend before Halloween. That would be perfect, except that I won't have any free time then. Looks like they'll be in Iowa (which is close enough to me) on November 3rd, and if my schedule slows down enough by then, that would be the perfect way to end my Halloween season I think.

Jimm, I totally agree with your song choices. Bump, Strange, Believe (In Things You Cannot See), and Creepin' are probably the best fit for Halloween. Strange especially, since it deals with superstition and magic. The other two are more of their typical innuendo laden themes, but with some choice lyrics that fit in with spooky stuff. I suppose you could make an argument for Bag of Bones also. I think most people assume that a band of mummies would have more monster-related songs, but not so much.

I really like the other songs you mentioned also. To toss out a few other choice tracks... Ra Ra Ra, It's On Tonight, Freak Flag, and Stroke of Midnight.

They put on such a fun live show, don't miss an opportunity to see them!

Here Come the Mummies have yet another new studio album (their 6th) almost ready to caress your ear drums. "Cryptic" will be dusted off on May 14th, 2013. I like the "puzzling" album cover which makes me think of Hellraiser with an Egyptian twist.

You can hear a preview of some of the new songs in this "Cryptic" album teaser:

The band is also running a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for the new album's release and promotion: MAKE "CRYPTIC" OUR BEST AND BIGGEST YET. I backed the project at a tier that will reward me with an autographed copy of the CD, digital download, exclusive t-shirt and sticker.

But there are higher rewards for bigger contributions. They're offering things like... custom voicemail greetings, their used instruments and stage props, tickets to all their concerts for a year, and custom songs written about you. If you donate close to $10K they'll even come to your house (with KFC to feed everyone) and throw a concert in your living room for you and 10 friends.

If you like funny funk with horn playing mummies, but haven't checked out this band yet, a good place to start might be their greatest hits album called "Hits and Mrs."
