I was seeking out some more pumpkin preservation tips for this season's carving and someone suggested a lacquer or varnish.

I was just wondering if this would work?

I Would Imagine If You Varnish All The Cut Edges
It Will Stop The Pumpkin From Drying Out

You can varnish an uncarved pumpkin and it will last for months but you have to leave one part un-varnished so the pumpkin can "breathe". People who paint faces and designs on pumpkins do this all the time and they last for months.
