I think it's more of a personal choice. I carve both -- and they both have their challenges, but I think I am a "better" carver on "reals". And I think I like the look and feel of real better. I am no artist (that title is for folks like Ryan, who make the patterns possible), but I like working with...

A clock is a great idea! You can get the movement at Michael's or Hobby Lobby for just a few bucks. What a great idea for the half pumpkins!

I'm not a fan of carving fake 'kins at all, but they are nice since they last forever. Thanks Raven! I am with you on the fake pumpkins... This last one was almost a chore. I have a few that are on a theme that I add to from year to year, and I think they look great when done, but I don't have a pr...

I couldn't find any specific rules about posting carves from patterns on other sites, so if there are any, please let me know! These are the foamies I have done so far this year... the reals will probably be tomorrow's project. *photo issue fixed* BEVO XIV - Only a true Texan could fall in love with...

Those look great! I have that book, too, but haven't had the time to actually try one. I might have to give it a go after seeing yours. And I love the way you staged your photo. Very creative!

I really like this idea! I would dearly love to get my knife in the that day of the dead pattern! Unfortunately, I missed it, and would really like a go at it. And I think the proceeds going to the charity is a fine idea!

Great display and carves! Your house brought back memories of the Ghosts of Halloween Past... your home is very similar to the house I grew up in back in the mid-west. It really struck a chord. Well done carves and display. I can still smell all the leaves I raked in the front yard.

I'm not even close to expert -- I'm in it for the fun, and I learn something new on these forums every visit, although I love the challenge of a detailed carve. I do think there is a lot of interest in foamies these days, and I carve my share, but for me there's nothing quite like the anticipation o...

I think a lot depends on how detailed they are and how you can store the carved 'kins. I'm SoCal and I only get a day or so out of most carves, just because it's so warm during the day. I remember Boise this time of year being pretty pleasant during the day, but cool overnight. If you can store them...
